We offer a range of freelance opportunities for Driving and Clinical Tutors all year round. Tutors are required to have formal educational, assessment qualifications and a tutoring/teaching qualification to be able to deliver the courses.


Clinical Tutors are expected to have current/relevant experience in the field in order to ensure their competencies are current. They would also need a formal teaching qualifications, and on occasion a recognised assessor qualification.

In order to work on our Paramedic Programmes, Tutors would need to be a registered Paramedic with the HCPC.

FutureQuals are our chosen accrediting body for Ambulance Driver Training courses. Tutors need the following to teach any FutureQuals accredited courses:

  • An assessor award such as D32, D33, A1 or the new Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement
  • A formal teaching qualification such as PTLLS, CTLLS, DTLLS or the new Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training
  • Operational Competency in the skill you want to teach

Increasingly Driver Tutors are also being required to hold Approved Driving Instructor registration as more and more clients train in class B vehicles.

Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA)
We are working with our training staff to ensure they have the best opportunity to meet the changing requirements of accrediting bodies provide them the best opportunities to gain high quality, reliable and rewarding work placements. EMSTAR is accredited to deliver the latest Assessor Qualification (CAVA) and offers discounted packages for Tutors. 

Driving and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) Approved Driving Instructor (ADI)

We aim to provide stable work for our driving tutors by winning competitive tenders throughout the emergency service environment. The requirement for Driver Tutors is to be registered on the DVSA Approved Driving Instructor register, has become an essential element when we look to place our Tutors with clients. To ensure all Driver Tutors have the opportunity to gain stable work we encourage Tutors to meet modern requirements. EMSTAR is able to provide subsidised ADI part three training.

Internal Quality Assurance (IQA)
This process looks to ensure the quality of assessment throughout the training process and involves checks on all aspects of training delivery and assessment. There is a real benefit for the tutors with this process. As tutors, will receive feedback following an IQA visit and these reports allow tutors to gain valuable evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD). We have our own IQA for driver and clinical qualifications.

EMSTAR are assisting our Tutors whenever possible. Our Training Director, Steve Curley is taking an active role in our Educational programmes.
