Overview of our Course
This course covers the National Patient Care Services scope of practice that is required to
perform the role of Ambulance Patient Care Support Attendants or Assistants. The
Ambulance Patient Care Support Assistants are responsible for the care and transportation
of patients with varying needs and requirements. The learner will be looking after the
disabled, elderly, sick and vulnerable whilst transporting them to and from outpatient
clinics, day care centres and routine hospital admissions and discharges. Learners will be
responsible for the care of these patients on the journey and whilst they are being
transferred to and from the vehicle.
This qualification will be a combination of full time education, with formative and summative
assessments with consolidation in the real work environment.
In addition to the training within the Level 3 Award there is scope to undertake a Level 3
Certificate but has an additional seven modules. These include two Conflict Resolution
Modules, administration of oxygen therapy in ambulance patient care, Major Incident
Preparedness, Basic Life Support and Automatic Defibrillation and Basic Airway
Management in Emergency Care.
